“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” -John 14:27
How This Blog Came to Be
I have had the most wonderful little book collecting dust on my nightstand. I had every intention to read it, of course, but then I would find another that just could not wait. Don’t we all have that problem?
Oh wait, I am a bit of a book worm… I forget sometimes. My apologies.
Anyway, I came home from a particularly rough day. A day full of worry and anxiety. A day that I, blessed as I am, have not had to face in a long time. The tension made me want to just relax. So I started up the warm water for a bath, and I wandered over to see what words would send me into carefree bliss as words tend to do.
My eyes fell upon the small pink book with white thread sewn into flowers across the cover. I stared, and I stared some more. Then, almost as an instinct, I grabbed it. Fast. As though I knew not to give it another thought. Not to give myself the option of opting out.
God’s Promises for Women NIV by Jack Countryman.
Are you shocked? Maybe disappointed? Me too.
I felt myself pushing this opportunity to bond with my Creator farther and farther off. Many people go through this with their relationship with God. There is a feeling of “I have pushed Him away for this long, so it must be too late.”
But it’s not.
A promise was made today. I promised to read a chapter of this book every night before bed, which is what I should have done in the first place. I promised to really focus on the lesson of each chapter, underline anything I need to remember, mark anything I need to talk through with someone, and just make sure I fully comprehend these words that I know will be fruit for my soul.
I know sometimes it feels too late. I understand, really, but I also know that God loves unconditionally and His grace is unmatched.
You’ve sinned. He forgives you. What is even more amazing is that He forgives you for the sins that He knows will be in your future! You are forgiven for it all! Jesus died on the cross so that you would not have to carry any burdens.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1:9
~~~How I Get Closer to God~~~
These are some of the ways I found myself growing closer to our Father:
Easy Peasy!! Just talk to Him! Get to know Him. In my own opinion, I believe our relationships with God are all our own. They are individualized to us just as our relationships with each other are.
So find what is comfortable for you. Pray on your knees beside your bed before you go to sleep, pray in the car on your way to work, pray in the shower while you are alone with your thoughts. Whatever works for you. There is no wrong way to go about getting closer to Him so long as you truly are getting closer to Him.
Worship through music, too! I love this one! I listen to music super regularly, so I will set my phone to my “praise” playlist and let the love flow! (Disclaimer: I am in no way gifted with a singing voice, but that sure doesn’t stop me!)
Need some help finding some good songs? I’ll list my favorites below:
This is probably not what this is called, but I am super new to it so I do not know all the ins and outs quite yet. When I do, I will make another blog about it.
What I do is what I mentioned before: underlining, marking, doodling around a verse I want to stand out to me, etc. I feel like this is so perfect for artsy individuals who are interested in further understanding God’s word.
Have fun with it! Make it something you look forward to doing so that your relationship with God will be healthier and more devoted. Also, this is a fantastic opportunity to just set the electronics aside for thirty minutes and focus on some much-needed self-care.
Find the answers your heart has been seeking. They are in the Bible. Or, go invest in a book like the one I am finally diving into. Each chapter is full of purely God’s word, but the author simply made it easier for someone to find the lesson they are needing. Feeling heartache? Page fifty-six is where you can find everything the Bible has to say about heartache.
Thank you for reading!
I hope this lengthy, and quite personal, blog will help someone with their journey to creating a stronger relationship with their Creator. If you have any questions or just want someone to talk to, I promise to be there for you.
